SRINAGAR The Indian Uyghur Society (IUS) today announced a clarified and firm policy position on the East Turkistan cause, reaffirming that the organization’s work is anchored in the struggle for East Turkistan’s full independence. IUS underscored that this position reflects the aspirations of Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples for freedom, dignity, and genuine self‑determination in their homeland.

“IUS underscores that the restoration of East Turkistan’s independence constitutes the sole viable path to securing the survival and continued existence, freedom, human rights, political rights, and self‑determination of the Uyghur people,” said Wasim Abdullah, President of the Indian Uyghur Society.

In line with this stance, the Indian Uyghur Society will engage and cooperate exclusively with Uyghur organizations, entities, and individuals that explicitly support the cause of East Turkistan’s independence. This policy is designed to maintain strategic clarity within the movement, prevent dilution of the national struggle, and ensure that all partnerships contribute directly to the realization of an independent East Turkistan.

The Indian Uyghur Society emphasized that years of systematic colonization, genocide, and occupation in East Turkistan show that minor policy adjustments and limited autonomy cannot safeguard Uyghur rights or identity. Only full independence can provide credible guarantees for religious freedom, linguistic and cultural preservation, political participation, and security from state‑sponsored repression.

The Indian Uyghur Society reiterated its commitment to peaceful, democratic, and lawful advocacy, including public awareness, diplomatic engagement, and coalition‑building with civil society and lawmakers in India and around the world. IUS calls on governments, international organizations, and all people of conscience to recognize the Uyghur struggle as a legitimate anti-colonial movement and to support initiatives that clearly affirm East Turkistan’s right to independence and self‑determination.
