SRINAGAR — The Indian Uyghur Society (IUS) today marked East Turkistan National Independence Day, commemorating the establishment of the First East Turkistan Republic in 1933 and the Second East Turkistan Republic in 1944. November 12 stands as a historic affirmation that East Turkistan is a distinct nation that has repeatedly proclaimed its independence and refused to accept foreign domination.
“IUS recalls that November 12 is a testament to the East Turkistani people’s enduring struggle to live free, sovereign, and independent in their own homeland,” said Wasim Abdullah, President of the Indian Uyghur Society. “The fight for East Turkistan is a long, painful struggle for self-determination. The world must support the Uyghur people's rights to dignity and destiny."
The Indian Uyghur Society emphasized that the ongoing genocide, mass internment, forced labor, and cultural and religious repression in East Turkistan are direct consequences of the denial of East Turkistan’s sovereignty and the continuation of China’s colonial rule. IUS stressed that no model of autonomy under the People’s Republic of China can provide credible protections for Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples or safeguard their right to self‑determination.
On this East Turkistan National Independence Day, IUS calls on governments, international organizations, and all people of conscience to recognize East Turkistan’s historic independence, condemn ongoing atrocities, and support initiatives that clearly advance East Turkistan’s right to full sovereignty and self‑determination.
